  1. Vacation leave with pay accrues for regular employees working full time as follows:
    1. At the rate of 4.5 hours per two week pay period for employees during their first through fifth year of service.
    2. At the rate of 5.5 hours per two week pay period for employees during their sixth through tenth year of service.
    3. At the rate of 6.5 hours per two week pay period for employees during their eleventh through fifteenth year of service.
    4. At the rate of 7.5 hours per two week pay period for employees during and after their sixteenth year of service.
    5. Regular employees working less than full time shall accrue vacation leave at a proportional rate.
  2. In addition to the regular vacation benefits set forth immediately above, extra vacations shall be granted to employees after they have been working for specified lengths of time. These extra vacations shall be granted once only and must either be taken within two years after they are earned or cashed out. The manner in which these extra vacations shall be granted is as follows:
After five years of service — five days
After ten years of service — ten days
After fifteen years of service — fifteen days
After twenty years of service — twenty days
After twenty-five years of service — twenty-five days
After thirty years of service and each five years thereafter — thirty days
  3. At no time may an employee accumulate more unused vacation days than those that were earned in the previous two years. In exceptional circumstances, or when it is in the best interest of the BSC to postpone an employee’s vacation, the maximum number of accrued vacation days may be increased to the number of vacation days earned in the past 2.5 years, with the approval of the Executive Director. When these limits (two years, or two and one-half years) are reached, the employee shall cease earning vacation time until such time as the employee’s accumulation drops back below these limits. Exceptions under specific circumstances may be made by Cabinet.
  4. Managers’ vacations shall be scheduled with the approval of the Cabinet. Other Regular Employees’ vacations shall be scheduled with the approval of the Executive Director. Preference shall be given to senior employees. Vacations may not be taken before they are earned.
  5. If an employee gives at least one month’s (28 days) notice of their intention to commence terminal vacation, the employee shall be entitled to all benefits provided by this agreement during the period of terminal vacation, including but not limited to health and retirement benefits; but excluding further accrual of vacation and sick leave. Employees giving less than one month’s notice of intention to commence terminal vacation shall be entitled to accumulated vacation leave, but shall not be entitled to other benefits. Employees shall be entitled to receive such accumulated vacation pay regardless of the length of service. Employees not electing to take terminal vacation shall be paid their entire vacation leave balance at the time of termination.
  6. Absences for personal reasons are charged to vacation time or compensatory time. Employee absences which are neither regular vacation nor sick leave must be approved in advance by a Manager and Supervisor.
  7. A new employee may not take vacation leave before completing six months of continuous service. This shall not preclude the employee’s right to receive their accrued vacation pay if they leave the BSC before completing six months service.
