Network Manager Coordinator
The Network Manager Coordinator supports the Network Managers elected at each BSC Unit and promotes the availability of peer technical assistance among Network Managers. This position documents and evaluates common needs and challenges and reviews and makes recommendations on the BSC IT standards at https://sites.google.com/a/bsc.coop/biscuit/. The position provides an orientation to Network Managers near the start of each semester, offers other trainings on frequently encountered network and internet problems, and responds to requests for technical assistance on problems within the scope of the BSC IT standards. The position creates and maintains a current configuration of network server and IT capacity at each Unit, researches and documents available ISPs, and creates a list-serve or bulletin board for Network Managers to post questions and comments. The position advises the Network Managers on making cost-effective investments in IT and helps them take advantage of the BSC’s central level IT budget available for the Units to achieve BSC IT standards.
You must have at least three months of relevant work, internship or volunteer experience maintaining a network comparable to the networks found in BSC Units. (Experience as a BSC Network Manager meets this requirement). You must have experience installing, maintaining and trouble-shooting at least one of the following types of routing/QOS devices, switches, and access points: Cisco, custom Linux-based solutions, Linksys, etc. You must have experience with network and computer hardware trouble-shooting and documentation; experience with DHCP, DNS, NAT, and WINS management; and experience in creating network documentation. You must be familiar with concepts of network abstraction. You must have strong oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and analytical skills. You must be able to work effectively with a diverse group of students and members with varying levels of computer skills. You must be able to see projects through to completion, including enhancements and debugging of completed systems and able to prioritize multiple projects and demands. You must be able to install and terminate CAT 5/6 wiring. You cannot be a member of the Board of Directors and hold a Central Level job. You cannot hold a compensated house-level position and this position concurrently.
This is an 8-hour/week position, compensated with a rent credit stipend at $18.00/hour for three hours/week and fulfilling your five-hours/week workshift requirement. Apartment dwellers and summer residents will receive an additional rent credit stipend for the five workshift hours (at $18.00/hour), as this job does not replace the workshift requirement in these instances.
