1. Energy efficiency in CM purchasing and personal rooms (Passed 12/3/08)
- A. When purchasing new appliance for BSC houses, Central Maintenance will buy the most energy efficient models possible, as permitted by current economic constraints and organizational experience.
- B. Incandescent bulbs will not be used for permanent light fixtures in BSC buildings.
- 1. Exception: when only an incandescent bulb is appropriate for a fixture’s function.
- 2. Exception: when needed specifically for art projects.
- C. Members of all units except Fenwick using personal refrigerators will be charged a minimum fee of $16 per semester, to be paid to the house accounts. This number is an approximation of how much it costs to run a small refrigerator for one semester. At the beginning of each fall semester, the Sustainability Coordinator (CACom, in absence of a Coordinator) will update this amount according to current energy prices. Houses may decide if they want to charge a higher fee in order to discourage extra energy use.
- 1. Exception: members with diabetes, or other health issues that require access to food in personal rooms, will be exempt from the fee.
- D. Room inspections by house maintenance managers will include checking for refrigerators and permanent light fixtures.
